Creating my business card

Believe it or not, I don't have my business cards printed yet.  To make your own business cards is pretty challenging... that I realized when I was trying to design my own.  You might think that I'm too picky and ...

I’m a student again!

posted on November 29, 2007 by aylee

I’ve officially registered for Spring semester and I’m excited!  Since my classes are scheduled in the evenings and I mostly do my work for Aylee Designs at night, I might lessen the orders I’ll be accepting at Aylee Designs.  A couple of people told me to hire someone to handle the administrative work, but I don’t think I can afford it since there’s a lot of administrative work going on :(.  I have my cousin who helps me out with the designs, but I don’t expect him to do most of the administrative work.

I keep blabbing I haven’t even answered the question, “What class am I taking?”  It’s Photography!  Only 2 of the 10 people who voted on the poll got it right.  Visual Art Management was first and Computer Animation & Interactive Media came second.  I should have made it a contest :P.  Oh well…

Green Christmas

posted on November 29, 2007 by aylee

Since the release of the movie, “Unconventional Truth,” people have been more conscientious of the environment.  More and more items from grocery bags to appliances are going green.  The Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center this year has gone green as well.  The tree is lit with 30,000 colorful light emitting diodes or LEDs.  The LED Christmas lights are powered by solar panels atop the Rockefeller building.

So here I am following suit.  I just ordered LED mini lights for my Christmas tree.  I don’t have solar panels to power them up, but at least it’s something, right?  LEDs consume a lot less energy than the regular incandescent lights.  They don’t get as hot as incandescent lights and are less of a fire hazard.  They also last longer.

Quiz time: work and money

posted on November 29, 2007 by aylee

Quiz 1:  Are you at risk for job burnout?

I’m pretty okay with my job.  Here’s what I got:

Congratulations, you’re a pretty happy worker bee. Keep doing what you’re doing. But be on alert for the signs of job burnout: feeling powerless, hopeless, fatigued, drained or frustrated.

Quiz 2:  Should you stop working?

Your job provides some benefits, but you can probably find substitutes in other activities.

Ummm… I wonder what.

Quiz 3:  The CNBC Investment Risk Test

I’m a moderate investor… what I really want to be.

You’re a middle-of-the-road investor. You know you have to take some risk in order to beat inflation, and you’re willing to accept the chances of some loss of principal. You want predictable returns for your money.

So… how did you fare?

Immortalize a loved one in a ring

posted on November 28, 2007 by aylee

LifeGem creates diamond using the carbon element of a person.  The carbon is usually extracted from the ash remains of a person.  But now, LifeGem can also use carbon from a person’s hair.

Lifegem

The LifeGem® is a certified, high-quality diamond created from the carbon of your loved one… as a memorial to their unique life… as a symbol of your personal and precious bond.

Whether you’ve lost a loved one or simply want to celebrate your love, the LifeGem diamond provides a way to embrace your loved one’s memory day by day.  The LifeGem® is the most unique and timeless tribute available for creating a testimony to their unique life.

Your LifeGem memorial will offer comfort and support when and where you need it, and provide a lasting memory that endures just as a diamond does.  Forever.

I’m still trying to figure out how I feel about this.  I am not sure if I feel that it is a great way to immortalize a loved one and keep them close or a bit creepy.

Shopping for the holidays

posted on November 28, 2007 by aylee

This holiday season will be the most expensive yet for me.  Besides gifts, I also need to buy some not very cheap equipment for my classes that start in January.  In addition, the basement renovation will be done soon and I need to furnish it from scratch.  My credit cards will definitely be swiped ’til they’re paper thin.

Realizing the expenses I will incur, I am now more determined to find deals for each and every thing I buy.  I found $350 off code for Dell and a free shipping code for Gap, among a lot more, at CouponChief.com.  I also found good interest-free financing offers from Circuit City and Best Buy.

TUESDAY FUNNY:
The Man Rules

posted on November 20, 2007 by aylee

Finally, the guys’ side of the story.  We always hear “the rules” from the females’ side.  It’s funny coz I find a lot of them pretty reasonable, and I’m a woman.

Now here are the rules from the male side:

These are our rules!  Please note.. these are all numbered “1 ” ON PURPOSE!

1.  Men are NOT mind readers.

1.  Learn to work the toilet seat.  You’re a big girl. If it’s up, put it down.  We need it up, you need it down.  You don’t hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

1.  Sunday sports It’s like the full moon or the changing of the tides.  Let it be.

1.  Crying is blackmail.

1.  Ask for what you want.  Let us be clear on this one:  Subtle hints do not work!  Strong hints do not work!  Obvious hints do not work!  Just say it!

1.  Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.
