WTF Wednesday

posted on February 20, 2008 by aylee

Crying babyI am a crybaby, I admit.  I cry at movies and touching situations.  But I can’t stand people who cry over something that they can easily solve or do something about.  A patient needed something insurance-related so I told her to call her insurance.  Because I couldn’t give her what she wanted and she was having a hard time getting it, she had to cry.  What did she want me to do?  Call her insurance myself?  That wouldn’t even help because I’m not authorized to talk to her insurance regarding her account.

I was in the subway standing.  One seat freed up and I took it.  I noticed one of the passengers standing was trying to take it as well, but she was farther to the empty seat than I was.  She was older so I offered her the seat.  She just looked at me and didn’t even say thank you.  Then we arrived at the next station and she stood up and got out.  Geez!

The Basement Series:
Family Room

posted on February 18, 2008 by aylee

The family room is very tiny and I want it to be cozy and toasty.

The Basement Series: Living Room

  1. Of course you need a couch or something to sit on.  The convenience of changing slipcovers with the Ikea Ektorp sofa is what I like.  In addition, the sofa is not only cheap, but Ikea just had a 20% promotion on their sofas :).
    Price: $649

  2. The basement floor is all tiles so to make the family room more cozy and warm, I would need a rug that is really soft.  I’m still on the lookout for nice shaggy rugs.  The Aladdin shag rag at JCPenney looks pretty nice.
    Price: $249

  3. I have one empty wall and since the baseboard heater is on that wall, I thought these leaning bookshelves would be perfect!
    Price: $99 x 2

  4. Of course, don’t forget the TV.  I would need a TV stand that is tiny enough so my sofa bed, when open, will fit.
    Price: $69.99
The Basement Series Budget $ 6000.00
Bedroom 1626.90
Living Room 1165.99
Remaining $ 3207.11

DIY: Paddle Fan Program

posted on February 17, 2008 by aylee

How I Did It

Materials (per set)
80lb (or heavier) cover stock 8.5×11
fan handle or tongue depressor (popsicle stick may be too small)
adhesive

Tools
cutter, scissors, computer, printer, round-corner puncher (optional)

Recommended
Rotary Paper Trimmer (cutter), Round Corner Punch-Small (round corner puncher), Herma Dotto (adhesive), Classic Crest Solar White 80lb (paper), Classic Crest Recycled Bright White 80lb (recycled paper), fan handle

Template
One piece of paddle fan can be printed on one 8.5″ x 11″ paper. One side (left or right) of the template is the front of the fan while the other is the back. The fans measure approximately 5 1/4″ x 6 1/2″. My template includes 4 different shapes you can choose from.

Adding an image background
Add your image by clicking INSERT from the top menu then PICTURE. You can either insert a clipart or an image file. Select your image by clicking on it. Right click on the image then click FORMAT PICTURE. Click the LAYOUT tab and select BEHIND TEXT under Wrapping Style. Click OK. Now you can drag your image to anywhere you want it. Notice that your image appears behind your texts.

Directions
Cut on solid lines. You may use cutter or X-acto knife for the straight lines. Use scissors for the curved lines. You can use a round-corner cutter for the corners of the basic shape. Do not cut the dashed lines in the middle connecting the left and the right parts. Score and fold on the dashed lines in the middle.

Apply adhesive to one tip of your fan handle or tongue depressor. Insert your paddle or tongue depressor in between the folded fan and press to adhere.

The ups and downs

posted on February 16, 2008 by aylee

DOWNS

  • I’ve been sick for almost 2 weeks missing on a lot of work and school.
  • RCN is a crappy internet provider - either down or very slow every evening for days in a row.
  • My router just broke.
  • I have to go for an MRI to see if I have acoustic neuroma.

UPS

  • John is such a sweetheart.
  • I got 2-dozen flowers on Valentine’s day and 2-dozen chocolate-covered strawberries the day after :).
  • I feel better, even though I’m still coughing.
  • I’ve caught up with work and I’ve relieved some stress.

OVERALL

I’m very happy :)

I’m back

posted on February 13, 2008 by aylee

It’s been so long since I could touch a computer and really do something with it.  I’ve been sick since February 4.  After a few days, I thought I was better, but then a new symptom surfaced and I got worse.  Today is probably my least symptomatic day since the 4th.  But I still had the splitting headache this morning and cough throughout.  The headaches were the worst.  They were so painful that I could hardly move.  I could feel my pulse on my head.

I know I’ve mentioned about my ear earlier and most of my friends thought I was sick because of my ear.  No, I wasn’t.  The ear is a different problem I have to take care of.  I had to reschedule everything from my MRI to my doctor’s appointments this past 2 weeks because of my illness.

Sigh.  It’s getting a bit frustrating… after missing out on 3, possibly 4 classes, and running way behind work.  But hopefully tomorrow will be the beginning of another healthy episode of my life.

I want to thank everybody for their prayers and well wishes.  I greatly appreciate them.

life bits

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been VERY busy.  I expected to be busy the beginning of this year, but I never expected it to be this hectic.

  • I have started school.  I’m taking Photography classes and it looks like my whole semester (and likely the coming semesters as well), will be filled with assignments and projects.
  • I have been getting more clients for Aylee Designs this year.  It is definitely great, but I think I need to expand and hire people.  Unfortunately, I am unable to do Aylee Designs full time at the moment.
  • Unlike the first two, there’s one more that I’m not excited about.  It’s been a year and my ear hasn’t gotten better.  I now have a lot of doctor and radiology appointments lined up :(.

I’ll try my best to blog more often.  I will definitely post photos from my Photography classes so stay tuned :).
